The Children's Internet Protection Roundtable of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) continues its digital child protection campaign with animated short films emphasizing the importance of a conscious online presence. This autumn, the "online heroes" will demonstrate on television screens, radio, and in the digital space why a domestic digital house rule is beneficial, and it will also be revealed how filtering software can support children's safe internet use.
It is a strategic goal of the NMHH to provide programs that support the orientation and conscious decision-making of the public, and above all, young people, in the rapidly changing media landscape. This is why the twenty-one-member advisory body of the president of the media authority, the Children's Internet Protection Roundtable, is working to deliver its most important advice and guidance to families in a large-scale campaign this autumn.
Children today consider the online world their natural environment, but this does not mean they are aware of all its dangers and opportunities, so they need informed parental guidance. NMHH's popular superhero family can assist guardians with this, inviting parents and their children to dialogue through animated short films starting from November.
In the campaign, the Children's Internet Protection Roundtable promotes the growing importance of conscious device use in a world of cyber scams supported by artificial intelligence (AI), as well as social media platforms that are increasingly permeating our daily lives. Armed with online superpowers, the family members point out not only the dangers of the digital space but also methods through which young people can exploit all the advantages of the virtual space while minimizing risks.
“Children's digital safety is not just a technical issue, but a shared family matter” – emphasized the president of the Children's Internet Protection Roundtable regarding the autumn stage of the campaign. Ákos Somogyi pointed out: introducing a digital house rule, for example, is not about prohibition, but about mutually agreed frameworks that help young people maintain a balance between the online space and reality. The head of the NMHH child protection department stressed: if we create the rules together with our children, they participate much more as partners in responsible internet use. “Shared responsibility and cooperation are the keys to ensuring that the digital space represents an opportunity rather than a source of danger for children” – highlighted Ákos Somogyi.
The campaign also draws attention to safety risks that are particularly relevant during the year-end shopping rush, which also manifests in the online space. Important advice from the online heroes is to always notice online tricks, such as checking the credibility of online stores before purchasing and recognizing suspicious, phishing emails. It is crucial for children to know when to ask for help and to dare to speak up if they encounter an uncertain situation.
